My daughter Emily, my 'grand-dog' Darby and I went for a late afternoon walk in Lower Purgatory on a recent Sunday afternoon. We had some objectives: water the memorial tree for Steve Harvey and check out the recent opening of the reroute on Dante's Trail near the entrance to the spillway of the flood control dam. The reroute just opened on Thursday is starting to get some traffic and, as is usually the case, we already see a number of tweaks and improvements that could be made.
After watering the Burr Oak we walked up slope to the Harvey Bench to enjoy the 'window' in the vegetation looking out over the meadow. It is a great spot. Steve was a good friend and a good servant to our community. That particular location is delightful all through the day, from the crack of dawn on a summer morning when you may see some low lying fog to just before sunset when the orange and purple end of the spectrum washes over the east view with shadow and bold colors. The bench is just right. It will be there for a long time. If you happen to venture out to catch that sunrise think of Steve Harvey and the sublime grace of creation. It is good to know that many will feel that joy through the years to come...t.o.d., Feb 27, 2011
